Ways to Practice Mindful Eating
Overeating. It’s something we’re all guilty of from time to time. After all, the food is delicious! But if you find yourself frequently overeating or eating mindlessly, it might be time to try something different. Mindful eating is a practice that can help you become more aware of your eating habits and make changes to improve your overall health. Here are some tips for how to get started with mindful eating.
1. Pay attention to your hunger signals.
Before you start cooking or head to the grocery store, take a moment to check in with yourself and see how hungry you really are. Are you ravenous? Moderately hungry? Or could you actually stand to skip a meal altogether? Ignoring your hunger signals can lead to overeating or making poor food choices.
2. Don’t multitask while you eat.
This one might be hard if you’re used to eating in front of the TV or while working at your desk, but it’s important to be present when you’re eating. try to sit down at the table and eat without any distractions. This will help you focus on the taste, texture, and smell of your food so that you can appreciate it more fully. And who knows, maybe you’ll even find that you enjoy your meals more when you’re not multitasking!
